Want to make the most of your trip?

Here are some of the best things to do in Kapiti

There are plenty of things to do on the Kapiti Coast whether you are a nature lover, you want to do a bit of shopping or you just want to chill out on the beach. Our family accommodation is conveniently located close to many child-friendly attractions to keep your whole brood happy on holiday.
Here are some outings and activities we recommend...

Kapiti Island Tour

Paraparaumu is home to the iconic Kapiti Island, described as the jewel in New Zealand’s conservation crown. Day visits to the island to experience the many rare and protected species of birdlife in its natural environment are a “must do” on Wellington visitor’s lists.

Southwards Car Museum

Just a two-minute drive to the north of Elliott’s is the Southwards Car Museum - the largest car museum in the southern hemisphere.  Not only “petrolheads” but anyone with the vaguest interest in “things on wheels” will enjoy a visit to this extensive museum.

Paekakariki Steam Train Excursions

These popular trips are run by Steam Incorporated, and include amongst others the well-known Napier Art Deco Weekend, the Mangaweka express, and the Grand Circle Rail Cruise. Our Paraparaumu motel is the perfect place to overnight before, during or after your excursion, being only a two-minute walk from the railway station. We’re also happy to pick you up from the station if you let us know at the time of booking.

Coastlands Shopping Town

Just a three-minute walk away is the Coastlands Shopping Centre. With over 80 shops including Countdown and Pak n Save supermarkets, leading brands like Farmers and The Warehouse as well as smaller shops, Coastlands is the place to go for some forgotten essentials, picnic supplies or just a bit of window shopping. Coastlands also has a cinema showing latest releases and a food court.

Nga Manu Nature Reserve

Nga Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae is a short drive from Elliott's Motor Lodge. The reserve includes many native birds in aviaries as well as a nature walk through various tree types. A special nocturnal house includes owls and Kiwis.

Visit Wellington City

Access to the vibrant capital city is easy from Elliott's Motor Lodge, either by vehicle (approximately 50 minutes) or train with Paraparaumu Railway station only a two-minute walk away. The rail trip into Wellington is very scenic and features panoramic views over Kapiti Island and Wellington Harbour.

Coastlands Aquatic Centre

Paraparaumu’s aquatic centre is only four minute’s walk to the west of Elliott's Motor Lodge. Kids will enjoy the hydroslide and the inflatables which are in the pool at weekends and younger children can enjoy the toddler pool. Regular aquafit classes are held for visitors looking to keep up their fitness regimes.

Paraparaumu Beach Links Golf Course

Considered by many as one of the greatest links courses in the Southern Hemisphere, Paraparaumu Beach Links Golf course is a four-minute drive to the west of Elliott’s.
